Canada Comforts thanks you for the Knitted Donations!
Thursday April 7, 2011
The charity knitters have been busy making the most wonderful items for people who have far greater needs than us. Last week we dropped off a shipment to Canada Comforts. Here is a note emailed to me from Sylvia Hatfield:
Dear Sally,
I picked up from Sawyers, and had to leave for a few days, so I am just going through this wonderful lot of things that your customers have dropped off at your store. The workmanship and love that has been poured into all these things is outstanding. I will proudly show everyone what has come down from Kelowna. I am trying to figure out what to say, and I guess a humble but sincere thank you will have to suffice. What you have dropped off is simply amazing.
Where are all these things going? Well if all the plans run smoothly, our next shipment out is to Guatemala, followed by Transnistria. Transnistria is a country within a country. It is within the Moldova border but treated separately, since their language is different from the people in Moldova. Transnistria has an 80% unemployment rate, the results being many abandon children. This shipment will be to help the abandon children and orphanages. A couple of weeks ago I met one of the men who works with these abandon children – his pictures tare at your heart strings. Interestingly, he is a citizen of Transnistria, but has to carry a Moldovan passport to travel because his country isn’t officially recognized!!
Please pass on to your customers my sincere thanks for their tremendous help with the Canada Comforts projects.
Sylvia

If you are interested in knitting or sewing for Canada Comforts, a B.C. charity based in Victoria, B.C. (the work is entirely based on free efforts and there are no administration costs attached to their efforts) then please contact them directly or we would be happy to accept your donations and make sure they get to them. We are always in need of good yarn suitable for afghans, baby, children and adult clothing and accessories; we pass it forward to knitters who are knitting for this cause.
Thanks for your generosity
